Wind [HD]

Love of Sailing . . .
In reality, in 1983 Australia II skippered by John Bertrand defeated the American boat Liberty skippered by Dennis Conner, at the end of the 7th match race in the America's Cup. This broke 132 years of victory for America in the America's Cup match race, started in 1851 when the yacht America beat British Fleet in the very first America's Cup race, with the match then named after the first winning boat.

History was made again in 1987 when the Stars & Stripes, again skippered by Dennis Conner, took back the Cup for America against Australian Kookaburra III, skippered by Iain Murray.

The movie Wind provides Hollywood's parallel take on these two historic races. The fictional Will Parker on the boat Radiance loses to Australian Jack Neville on Boomerang, at the 7th race, paralleling the US lost in 1983. The final movie race, in which Will Parker on the US Geronimo, beats out the Australian Platypus, mirrors the 1987 retake of America's Cup.

For sheer...

Adrenaline rush on the water.......
To start out with, like other reviewers have stated, it is terrific to see this movie out on DVD after so long. I realized, when I watched this movie for the first time, you don't have to be a fan of boat racing to love this movie.

The cinematography just can't be beat with absolutely wonderful shots putting you dead center in the action. It's a great experience in how the filmmakers shoot you back and forth onto the boats and then create sweeping panoramic views of strategic boat maneuvers. Top notch sailboat racing, bar none.

The DVD is remastered in high definition and is crystal clear with superb detail and color. As for sound, Dolby 5.1 or DTS would have been the icing on the cake but I won't sell this DVD short. The Dolby Surround it does have still gets the job done just fine and sounds excellent.

You can't go wrong with Wind and I recommend this movie to anyone who likes great racing and sporting competition.

Need this terrific movie in DVD format!
An Excellent sailing movie with a good storyline including the racing competition. Beautiful photography of boats, regattas and water. No need to be a sailor to enjoy this movie.

Need to have this movie in DVD format. Tell the studio to get it done.

Sheena [HD]

Three Stars, But A Great Guilty Pleasure
Deep in Africa, late at night, a Range Rover bounces over a rough track when suddenly the headlights pick out a face...a man buried up to his neck in sandy soil. A young couple, scientists, are horrified. They get out and walk to the face. The eyes are open and staring. Suddenly a tall native appears and tells them they are intruding on sacred soil. Then other natives appear with torches and begin to dance around the huddled couple and the head. And from the car appears a small, blond child, curious but apparently unafraid. At the climax, the head moves, shoulders appear, the body rises from the soil, free of the terrible sores which had afflicted it. Mysteriously, the man has been healed.

Days later, the couple set out to explore the source of the healing soil which seems to be from a cave in the sacred Guchar Mountain. Unknown to them they are followed by their child. When they are killed in a cave in, the child survives. And then the shaman lifts the child in the air...

Just Imagine a Female Tarzan.
With slight modifications, Sheena is basically just a female version of Tarzan (my all-time favorite fictional character). Everyone pretty much knows going in that the plot, dialogue and acting of a film like this will be of the "B" movie variety, and it is (kinda like Indiana Jones but a bit less compelling). What's magnificent, awe-inspiring and "A" level is the African locations (Kenya), the score and Tanya Roberts.

Seriously, if you're bored with your every-day locale this movie is the perfect antidote. It's virtually a two-hour tour of some of the most gorgeous African scenery you'll ever feast your eyes on. As for the score, it's pleasant and meditative; reminiscent of "Chariots of Fire." As for Tanya Roberts, what can I say? She's stunningly ravishing.

I was a little surprized by the PG rating because Sheena (Roberts) is shown TOTALLY nude on a number of occasions and prances around throughout the flick in a ridiculously skimpy leather bikini; but then it...

Sheena Was Made To Showcase Tanya Roberts
Sheena wasn't made to win any Academy awards. Nevertheless, for a "B" film the photography is actually quite good. Granted, Tanya's acting ability at this time in her life needed a lot of work. I'm sure the producers were aware of this going in and didn't care. They knew the attraction would be to watch Sheena doing her thing in her jungle outfit. Tanya was the perfect choice considering the reason for the film. Sheena was made to showcase Tanya Roberts stunning physical attributes and was successful in this regard. She is the reason the movie is still moderately popular after 20 years. So if you like this type of eye-candy film, enjoy! It wasn't meant to be anything else.

12 Men Of Christmas [HD]

Mr. Darcy is Mr. December!
Was Jonesing for a romantic comedy Christmas flick and was pleasantly surprised with The Twelve Men of Christmas. Based on a Brit novel Dating Mr. December, it is a fish-out-of-water story. Our plucky little heroine EJ (Kristen Chenoweth) Leonard Bernstein's Candide (Great Performances) simultaneously loses her great Manhattan job and caddish boyfriend and is forced to relocate to a small Montana town to become their publicist.

Apparently everyone there has taken a vow to be very nice and understanding to perky newcomers. All the males are pretty much "ah shucks ma'am" to a gorgeous blonde city women except the rich, handsome Will (Josh Hopkins) Swingtown - The First Season who is very stand-offish to our protagonist. The plot centers around the efforts to...

Cheno Makes Christmas Sexier!
Saw this movie on Lifetime when it first aired and have watched it every time its on tv. I think Kristin Chenoweth is adorable and immensely talented so I had to add this movie to my collection.

Love it!
I really enjoyed this movie. Great when you need to veg and watch something easy and fun. Sort of the male side of "Calendar Girls".

Jumpin' Jack Flash [HD]

Thank God
I am sooooooooooooooo happy that one of my all time favorite movies has finally come out on DVD. I love this movie so much. It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Every time it comes on TV, I watch it like it's new. My favorite scene is when she dresses like one of the supremes and she gets her dress caught in the shredder, I laugh so hard at that point. Please, if you haven't seen this movie, it is a must have, cause it is unbelievably funny.

PLEASE put "Jumpin' Jack Flash" onto DVD !!!
"Jumpin' Jack Flash" is a GREAT movie filled with hysterical lines and a zany cast. This is almost a cult classic and it is a tragedy that the movie isn't on DVD ! Why, just the fact that Whoopie is in it would make it sell great and there are at least two generations missing out on this film that would go nuts for it... MY poor VHS copy is almost worn out and there are so many delightful quips and lines in this film, almost nothing puts me in a better moood ! ("Get yourself an office - with a desk and a lamp !") PLEASE come to your senses an put this little gem, for its 20th anniversary at least, onto DVD !

Good Whoopi
Years ago when this was first released it was the first movie I saw Whoopi Goldberg in, and I haven't missed any of her movies since then. Fans of comedies about average people getting into complicated spy situations with comedic results will love it. If you are a fan of movies like "Bird on a Wire", "Outrageous Fortune", and "Undercover Blues" you should enjoy this one.

This was the first time I recall seeing a comedy spy movie other than "Casino Royale" at the time. Goldberg and the rest the cast do a great job. Good music and sets make it stand out among a good number of those produced today. I highly recommend you buy this one since it is definitely one of Whoopi's best.

AC/DC: Dirty Deeds

It's okay
It's an okay movie. It drags out a bit at times and completely ignores the bass player(s) which I found rather odd. It's like they never existed.
Some good pictures, short clips and die hard AC/DC fans would like the added images and clips that they might not have seen. I was not blown away, but it was okay to have on in the back ground and watch on and off.

Drive Me Crazy [HD]

Not as bad as I expected
Isn't it funny how some films don't quite fit their stereotypes? I settled down to watch Drive Me Crazy because I was in the mood to watch a mindless teen movie, and given that this film stars Melissa Joan Hart of Sabrina The Teen Witch fame, I was expecting really more of the same. It doesn't help that the beginning of the film reinforces the stereotype (complete with cheesy pop background music, neon-lit opening titles and slow pan across a typical teenage girl's bedroom followed by Melissa answering the phone in her best "a la Sabrina" perky voice).

What I encountered was a film that is still very much rooted in the teen "prom" genre, but is slightly deeper and sophisticated (as well as more ponderous and slow-moving) than I expected. It's quite a biting and penetrating observation of the high school social hierarchy as well as the conflicting emotions of young love. Think of it as a more serious version of Clueless with a dash of Dangerous Liaisons thrown in...

Good and different
I must admit right off the bat that I'm a sucker for these type of movies with the predictable, happy ending. However, I must also say that I truly believe this was a good movie because it both hit the mark with what high school can be like yet it was different from many of the recent high school flicks that have been made. It is different because neither character is chasing the other one and they are former friends rather than 2 people who know nothing of each other. Also, even though Melissa Joan Hart's character is the popular, perky one, Adrian Greiner's character is not your typical "loser" character nor would I classify him as a loser. He is not an academic nerd either, but a rebellious person who gets in some trouble. That being said, I do have some beefs with the movie. First, the "falling for each other" between Hart and Greiner doesn't develop as it should. It also bothered me that neither one says how/what they feel even at the end. The audience...

Really really fun!
I'm honestly not one to be a big fan of teenage movies, USUALLY. But...when I saw this movie I notcied that the world of teenage cinematic productions really DID have potential, can you imagine! Adrian Grenier is the cuuuutest, and Meslissa Joan Hart acually acts in this movie, hard to believe, but yes, she does! It has an interesting plot and is one I could watch over and over again. It is funny, smart, and witty. Never leaving you yawning this movie receives a 5 in my book! I would reccomend it to anyone!
